Beware of this WhatsApp scam that promises free Iberia tickets for Black Friday

With the rise of technology, and the popularization of social networks and other applications, scams are moving and reinventing themselves to continue capturing data and money from users. In this case, it is a hoax that occurs in WhatsApp and affects the company Iberia.

It is a message with a link in which they promise that for 2.90 euros the user can have free flights. In this case, the excuse used by scammers to have more credibility is the black fridaya day on which thousands of stores and companies offer great discounts to their customers and which will be held in the coming weeks.

Specifically, the offer that comes through a WhatsApp message promises “5,000 free round-trip tickets to Europe for you”, as indicated by the Murcia Local Police. The text is accompanied by a link, but the url, ‘shorlinks.su’it should set off alarm bells: it’s not Iberia’s official website (iberia.com) and it doesn’t have keywords like “iberia” or “flights”.

If a user were to click on the link, they could see that the page asks for various pieces of information, such as age or opinion of the airline. Then at the bottom it shows 16 boxes as a gift and, although the first time they don’t “give” you the prize, the second time it does happen: in theory you’ve got the plane tickets.

However, to receive the promotion the user must pay 2.90 euros of management fees and forward the link to multiple users to continue the chain of scams.

Given the popularity of this draw, in addition to the Police, the airline Iberia has also spoken about it pointing out as “fraud” these fake giveaways that are forwarded by WhatsApp. The company has added that all its draws or contests “are always published exclusively on http://iberia.com and Iberia’s profiles on social networks”, with the intention that users only trust the company when participate in any promotion bearing your name.
